Our Curriculum

ALIGNING CURRICULUM WITH CORE VALUES AND GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The Principal, Elementary Curriculum Coordinator, and the School Board determine the curriculum choices at Fayette Christian School. The first priority is courses of study governed by the mission, vision, core values, and guiding principles of Fayette Christian School. All programs of study from Preschool through Grade 12 integrate the Bible into their core subjects; a biblical worldview is one of the goals of the academic program of the school. Bible as a subject is part of the curriculum K5-12.

CURRICULUM CHOICE

Fayette Christian School uses the BJU Press curriculum in preschool through high school, in all subjects with the exception of McGraw-Hill math K5-12. BJU Press materials focus on four critical areas of study–biblical worldview, academic rigor, critical thinking, and technology solutions-to build a core curriculum. Their emphasis assists FCS in fulfilling our mission to grow students spiritually, academically, socially, and physically, thereby benefiting churches, communities, and the world—all to the glory of God.

Biblical Worldview – Biblical integration is foundational to a biblical worldview. BJU’s curriculum works faith and learning together; “students learn how the Bible is relevant to every academic subject.” Each textbook includes “biblical worldview shaping,” allowing each student to view each subject through the lens of God’s Word. (BJU Press)

Academic Rigor – BJU Press defines academic rigor as “…the educational experience that engages students in content appropriate to their academic level and helps them learn to analyze, evaluate, and ultimately create.” This program of instruction guides students toward critical thinking as they prepare for their careers and life choices.

Critical Thinking – Critical thinking is the ability to evaluate, analyze and synthesize information so that the quality of understanding and knowledge is improved. Socratic discussion, project/discovery activities, and thought-provoking writing assignments support the teaching of critical thinking.

Technology Solutions – BJU Press provides various resources for parents and students: Bible apps that coordinate with the Bible curriculum, homework helps, and other online resources. This practice is in keeping with FCS’s commitment to utilize technology tools correctly and effectively.

The curriculum’s scope and sequence and pace practices provide the parameters for instruction. All teachers are expected to complete the course of study in each curriculum, teaching the qualitative materials in each textbook.

USE OF SECULAR MATERIALS

Fayette Christian School strives to provide the best in academic instruction, guided by biblical principles and the state standards of instruction. Each year the Administrative Team determines the effectiveness of each curriculum. Recognizing the need to keep pace with the ever-advancing career world, FCS will adopt secular materials or programs that will best meet the needs of its students. Initial adoptions will be reviewed both by the faculty involved and the parents/guardians. (A period of time is given to the parents/guardians to ask questions and respond after the announcement is made.)

Fayette Christian School is set on providing the children of our community and surrounding area with an exceptional educational experience that will prepare them for life and give them an opportunity to grow as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
